The International Olympic Committee comes to Long Beach
It's an exciting time in Long Beach; this week the International Olympic Committee (IOC) comes to our city to view potential staging sites for the LA 2024 Olympic Games bid. I'm proud to be a part of this opportunity to showcase our beautiful city. Long Beach has a lot to offer the international community with spectacular venues perfect for guests from around the world.
Sailing races will happen along the Long Beach Belmont Pier, and Water Polo will be in a temporary facility to be built near the waterfront. Marathon Swimming and the Triathlon will take place along our beautiful coast, with the Triathlon using our Grand Prix track. BMX will also be in a temporary facility by the water, and Handball will be hosted in the Long Beach Arena. The Convention Center will host warm-up facilities.
The Olympics will bring an enormous economic boom to Long Beach, benefiting our local businesses and residents. The international spotlight will be a great opportunity to introduce Long Beach to viewers across the world. As we show the IOC around, I hope to get a chance to share not only the scenic beauty of Long Beach but also the welcoming residents that will help make 2024 the best and most exciting Olympic Games yet.
Go Long Beach,
Mayor Robert Garcia
